STAAR Testing Tips

• Read the directions, title and story very carefully and slowly.
• As you read the questions, ask yourself, "What is this question really asking me?" Infer, Cause/Effect, Draw Conclusions, Visualize, Summarize, Theme, Character Traits
• Skinny Question answers can be be found in the story. Look for the clues and text evidence for answers to Fat Questions. Underline/circle any key words or clues in the passage that helps you find the answer.
• Remember information can be found in Titles, Subtitles, Graphs, Charts and Captions.
• Cross out any answer choices that couldn't be right and look for the distractor. Select the best answer choice.
• Check your answers..you will have the time to take the test twice.
• Complete the test before you begin to bubble.
• Bubble slowly and carefully...Take your time to finger touch each and every number BEFORE as you bubble in on your answer document. Check over all your work before you turn it in.
• Remember all the answers are in your pencil.
